Hi Ricardo, Here are some pics of my 1986 FZX
I have changed the back end to the now popular XJR 1200 with a fat 180 tyre. And
the front is a TDM 850, I thought as I was going to need the trees for the FZR
front and the only thing around fleabay at the time was the whole front end I
may as well chuck it all on, so I did. There is enough forks through the trees
to add clip ons, so maybe I will go that way with it. The headlight is what I
bought for my Virago that I stripped to rebuild but got the FZX to ride while it
was in bits, and now I have one I cant be bothered to do the Virago cause the
Fazer is much more fun. Any way this is it upto now, Cheers

I purchased
this 1986 Fazer 700 in October of 2003; it was in rough shape to say the least.
It obviously had been wrecked, but the engine and tranny were still in good
shape. That winter I started tearing it apart to give it a full
restoration, well after discovering how rare and expensive OEM parts were I
decided to go a different route. I
switch gears and was now going to do a modern rendition of what a modern Fazer
should look like (I feel Yamaha miss the mark with their current FZ1000 and
FZ750). So 21/2 years later I
finial finished my creation I call it the 06’ R7 Fazer.
Below I have listed out all the changes that went into this bike:
Front Forks
and Triple Tree, calipers and discs: Off a 94’ ZX9
Front Wheel and fender: off a 01 ZX6
Headlight and windscreen: off a 99 CBR 600, (trimmed)
Custom Handle bars and clamps: Hand made
Rear Swingarm,
shock and caliper: off 03 R6 (extensive
Rear frame mods)
Rear wheel, Disc and sprocket: off 01 R1
Rear Taillight: off 01 ZX6 (extensive
Rear frame mods, turning signals wired into taillight)
Custom Fiberglass rear fender: Hand made
Seat and seat cover: Re-shaped original and re-upholstered with leather
Re-located battery and coolant burp bottle
Veypor Digital Display (Excellent product)
Custom License plate bracket and headlight bracket: Hand made
Engine Mods:
Ported and polished head
Thinner Cylinder gasket (raised compression to 11.8:1)
New rings and hone job
Re-seated valve and lash settings
Custom 4 into 2 into 1 Exhaust with Vance & Hines silencer and copper heat
wrap: Hand Made
Rebuilt Carbs with stage III jetting and single pod air filters
Dyna Coils and wires
All parts were custom painted
Note: I sent nothing out to be done by a professional; I completed everything (paint,
fab and assembly) in the comfort of my garage.

fans out there for inspiring me to do this project by have such a great website
and forum. And last but certainly
not least I’d like to thank my wife for putting up with the mess in the garage
for the last 2 ½ years.

Robert from the UK built this custom FZX, that
show us what can be done with this unique classic. Great to see aproaches
on custom building other than the typical streetfighter. Great work Bob. Look

Hi Ricardo,
Thought I'd send you latest pics of my FZX.Seat has yet to be covered (have
drawn it in on photo). Radiator cowls are modified Triumph items made into
one piece with bullet indicators added. Rear mudguard was made by chopping old
seat unit and plastic welding a new section of guard onto it. K&N filters
have replaced stock airbox with stage 3 dynojet kit. Exhaust is Marving.
Front brake and clutch lines are now Goodridge - master cylinders stripped and
polished. Bars are 1 1/4" Yamaha Star accessories,so all original controls
have been ground to fit then polished. Wiring has been lengthened for switchgear
and clocks so nothing goes tho' headlight (all conect where airbox was). Frame
now needs powder coating black after some minor work (adding and removing some
brackets) and hoping it'll be on the road for spring. The flame paint was done
at work (Dream Machine of Nottingham) by myself and a little help from
my colleagues.
If you'd like to put these pics in your 'Hall of fame', that would be great;
will send more when it's finally done.

I'm from holland and try to pimp up my wife's '86 FZX.
After contacting Henk Eissing the job get started. At first i started polising
diferent parts, then i ordert mijzelf a new ductail from Germany whit no holes
in it, zo i can place same tailligts from a
Aprillia schooter,then the bike whas painted in black.the parts fits en the
lichts are working!!
But i,m not ready ,diferent chances wil follow, I sent you the pictures later
when this is ready.
Note: i have diferent parts from the FZX....seat...rear
caps....handgrip, somebody interesting....

Hi, my name is Mike and I live in
North Carolina, USA. Here are some pics of the 1986 Fazer I just got from a
buddy of mine (32,200miles). These will be the before pictures although it
already has a kerker 4 to 1 exhaust and some K&N filters. I am in the
process of getting a stock exhaust back on it and rebuilding the carbs. It also
is missing a few pieces here and there which I hope to get on Ebay. The rest
should polish out nicely so stay tuned!

during the 90´s the 700 cc motor was changed to a 94 hp 750, repainted two
years ago, exhaust silencers (hmmmm...?) hand made out of polished stainless
steel. Fantastic cool sound from these pipes and it goes like.......
Where? Just outside Malmö in southern Sweden!
This is a kind of love that will last for a looooooong time!! :-D

RC51 picked up the tab for this one but nothing like fzx she was at
the shop the whole summer to get re streetfightered i installed R1
front end with wheel and a carbon fiber R1 fender billet blue bars
with R1 risers raptor fairing xjr rear end swing arm and rim with a
180 metzeler (planning to fit a 200)bouth rims have been powder
coated to candy blue steering dampner and the veypor
digital speedometer/tachometer gives you speed rpm gear indicator horsepower
dyno run and many other features and of course the past mods where
the fzr 1000 swap with stage 3 kit and a refitted micron carbon
fibre slip on.

I've been meaning to post these pics of my winter
project since ........well spring. 98 YZF600r rim with a Bridgestone bt020 170. I also finally
bought some new shocks, progressive 12 series, they seem to work quite well.
I took the swingarm to a shop and has them press it out 10mm more for hub clearance. They made a jig to
keep everything even and bent the rear of the swingarm back in so all is parallel. Hope you
like.

2. A wheel from YZF 1000 R Thunderace, but not stock ( Wider - 6,25 rim by DEGET Racing Germany)
3. Thunderace swingarm machineworked for Showa rear suspension.
4. Great paintwork of wheel made by me and one of my best friends.
5. New aftermarket rear lamp and blinkers, handlebar, and grips :)
This the first stage of fightering ma yama.
Can`t do more cause my wallet is now empty like the lake on a Sahara :)
Now I`m really poor and really HAPPY!!!
Next stage (2nd) will be front wheel ;)

...They show the recent addition of Risers, which takes away backache riding on FZX. Dave also reckons it handles better, you can throw it around more. We want to take the centre stand off, cause it keeps grounding going around
roundabouts.

Hi Ricardo,
As promised updated our photos 1997 FZX 750. Yes by all means show our email
address. So the following have been done to our bike.
Firstly we lowered her with Hagon Shocks, Then we changed exhaust to Predator Sports
exhaust. She has been derestricted via carbs and Airbox. We have changed the sprocket from 39 cog to a 43
cog. We've got Goodridge hoses for front brakes, and have upgraded Sintered brake pads.and finally swapped the
chains. In one of the photos you can see Dave, my very own personal pilot! And other
half.
So we wont be riding fast.......Just flying Low!

Guess the bike is quite old but it runs well.
Waiting for an digital speedometer from Germany to see how is the top speed.
Made some minor but in my eyes important optical changes. The ugles rear chrome fender and
license holder i cut and now the rear looks great. Small flash lights, and I lowered the front
light.
The instruments (from a Honda XL500) are only for optic, because i got the bike without
any.

The bike has done approx 25,000 miles and runs like a dream. The dyno tune allows it to easily

Future mods include all ally polishing (being done as I speak) new seat, new
paint, upside down forks (when I can find some that will fit without have to change the front wheel or brake
system)
Always looking for accessories so if you know of any English speaking dealers then I'd be happy to talk to

Im about to buy a 96' FZX for a good price in the Philippines. Has a six speed but a built in speed
lamp next to the fuel lamp! Could it be a restricted speed bike?
What makes me interested is that it has 17" front and back wheels and adjusted
callipers, engine
sounds good, just plenty of cleaning and detailing to do.

Portugal, owns this grey FZX750 (same colour as mine was one day:-)
It features a '88 FZR1000 frontend (fited with a little help from yours truly),
ThunderCat600 clip-ons and custom made brackets for the clocks. This was done
during a 3day period, where I kept wrenching and Pedro kept bringing on the beer
(Portugal's finest, SAGRES)
During this period, we also fited the Vmax shocks and the leather tank cover.
After this, Pedro fited the TDM850 17" rear wheel, while retaining the
stock swingarm.
Way to go, Pedro.

Fred's FZX with
Yamaha TDM850 rear wheel, which to my current knowledge, seems to be the easiest
way to have a 17" rear wheel fit to our FZX
Hi Ricardo,
The only things that needed to be done (to fit the Yamaha TDM850 rear wheel) is
add a little washer (2 mm as far as I remember) on one side of the wheel on the
rear axle, to get spot on adjustment.
I can't remember if this was compulsory, but because I got the wheel from a
friendly broker who also gave me for free the rear disk and brake master
cylender support, I also fitted these ones to save a bit of weight. To do this,
I only had to saw a little part of the brake support so that it
be not in contact with the swingarm. This did not take much time to fit this on,
and a simple metal handsaw was required.
Now I can really feel the difference in the handling of the bike. However
note that you cannot fit huge tyres on this rear wheel, the standard one
is 150, but I got a 160 MEZ4 on it that works really well, and I did not want
any bigger so that the bike still turns and handles as well as it did before.
I have now installed a new engine (3500km) on my bike that I got from the same
broker, and will send photos to Ricardo as soon as I get hold
of a digital camera.
PS: Ricardo, I am the one that contacted one or 2 monthes when I could
not get my new engine starting. I found the solution to have a 4AM engine
work with a 2JE electrical wiring, and the CDI from a 750FZ. I do not have time
to explain this now cause I am at work, but if someone
needs the info, it needs to swap a few connections on the wiring and it works
really well. I am now running the engine in, and I can't wait
to push it to its limits, as it feels quite stonger than the original engine, I
polished the intake and exhaust ports, the explosion chamber, and
a few other bits, and more power seems to be here!!! my max speed was 245 km/h
on the speedo before, and I think I will be able to beat
it now...

"I finished up my Fazer mods for
this year............until next winter! Here is what I've done and I will
include pics if the Yahoo server will let me........
Swapped a 1988 FZR1000 front end
and wheel. VERY easy! All I had to do was cut the "fork stop"
off of the top of the frame so the ignition for the FZR would fit flush.
3.5 inch wheel, radial tire, HUGE brakes!!!!!!
Round headlight from a CB750 (1978 vintage LOL)with front turn signals
mounted on the "ears" of the headlight bucket.....again VERY easy to
do.
K&N pod filters, stage 3 jets, used 4 into 1 with Supertrapp universal
slip on.
Aluminum swingarm from a 1985 FZ750 with (UGLY) shock mounts welded on.
This is a little wider inside than the stock swing and obviously, aluminum!
Uses stock brake mount/spacer also. Just took two old FZX axles and
welded them together to make a longer axle....axle diameter on 18 inch wheel
is the same as the FZX (17mm).
1987 FZR1000 18 x 4.5 in rear wheel with Avon tire. With the swingarm it
was also VERY easy. Had the FZR spacer machined down 4 mm and added a 2
mm spacer behind the sprocket.......things lined up pretty easily. Had
to move the rear brake arm over to the outside of the brace but just used a
longer bolt to attach it (the stock rear for the FZR is the same as the FZX).
Upped the rear sprocket to 46 teeth, which meant I needed a 110 link 530 chain
(stock for FZR is 532, I bought a "conversion sprocket" that will
also fit later 17 inch rear wheels). Also sprocket is lightweight
aluminum.
Rear fender is chopped with stock turn signals, but going to buy a taillight/
turn signal combo device (someone posted once how to do this without the
kit........anyone remember how?).
Luggage rack is from some guy in France via EBay......they sell them on some
web sites in the E.U. It is bigger than the stock Yamaha one and mounts
to the grabrail bolt holes with stock bolts.
SO, she is now a great bike, better than before........there is actually a
decent choice of 18 inch tires out there, and the mod was SO easy.......I
might try the 17 inch swap this winter and look for a better sounding/ looking
exhaust can.

Spec is as follows:
92 FZX (ain't restricted no more!) 750 bottom end with bigger sump,and bigger oil
pump, fitted with a cosworth V-8 crank and rods, all balanced of course, 2 sets of FZX 750 barrels and top
ends, 1 standard exhaust system and 2 extra silencers and lots of stainless pipe.
Clutch and g/box strengthened, extra brake calipers added to front and back, monster chain and sprockets
fitted, and five "V-Max's put to shame" skull and crossbones, (oops, am i still a
member?)
Future modifications include an air shifter kit, N2o, new footrests as i keep burning my
ankles! Some bigger arms and shoulders, washable plastic elasticated underwear, and a parachute or ejector
seat, preferably both.

Hi
My name is David from Peterborough in England.
Thought i would send you a few pics of my FZX that i have just finished
rebuilding.
Its a 1987 model, was totally standard when i
bought it a year ago but as you can see i have done a few things to it.
I stripped it down to the frame last november and
then started rebuilding it and changing and
modifying some bits along the way.
I have listed below some of the main things ive had done to it :
Custom paint ( black with purple pearlecent + ghost
flames on the tank )
This was done profesionally and they did a stunning job, these pictures do
not do the quality or colour of the paint job any credit.
Done by GTA Powersports.
JMC 7020 box section swingarm.
Which not only looks great but has stiffened up the whole back end of the bike.
Modified and re'covered Seat.
Modified rear mudguard and light.
Goodridge clutch & brake hosing.
One off 4-1 stainless steel exhaust system with race can ( sounds great ).
Made by Predator Exhausts.
One off stainless steel ( 3mm gauge ) radiator guard.
This was laser cut to give me the lettering i wanted.
The list goes on .....................
Ive had loads of compliments from fellow bikers, even some Harley riders !!
There are still a few things left to do but they will wait until next winter,
at the moment im happy doing what FZX's were
designed for, and that's enjoying riding my bike.

Along with the FZR1000 motor he had previously fitted, his Fazer now features a
ZXR400 front end and a FZR1000 rear end with a monoshock converted frame.

Witt's Fazer, especially
its "Chamealeon" paintjob. The picture doesn't do it justice, this
paint has to be seen live to be appreciated. It changes from blues to purples
depending on the angle of vision and the amount of light available.

I have been coming to your site for a while now. So much useful info.
Well here are some pictures of my Fazer, it's the second one I have had.
Foolishly selling the last and buying an R6, mmm great you can go 150mph without
the slightest vibrate. Fun or what? NOT. aren't we supposed to feel like we are
going fast!
So I bought this Fazer a month ago. 1991 Mainly standard (for the moment)
Probably put Vmax shocks on though.
Custom paint job as you can see from the tank.
Mig pipes (not seen them on any other Fazer) and she roars.
Loud, fast and feels like a bike should.
Not selling this one off, too much fun.

His Fazer features a 7020 JMC
aluminum swing arm 3 deep braced, extended an extra 6", progressive
suspension, Vmax shocks, to keep the front end down and a Barnett clutch. Stage
3 dynojet kit, kerker 4-1 pipe, with supertrapp megaphone stainless steel can,
zx-11 rear wheel with zx brake caliper, flanders drag bars, nitehawk mirrors, 4
individual k&n filters, crankcase guards, lockhart phillips fairing mount
directionals, aztec orange paint (Harley color) 86 rear wheel HP with kerker
can, pushing almost 90 RWHP with supertrapp as run on dynojet dyno.

"Found your excellent site..I've got an 1986 FZX750 with 42,000km. It had
Dynojet stage three, K&N filters and FZX1000 Carbs with specially made carb
rubbers to attach it to the engine... I got 15bhp and shed loads more torque
when I replaced the standard carbs...
Totally agree with your thoughs about the fzx. I've also got a streetfighter
bandit 600 with the wiseco 889cc bore-out kit and the fzx still pulls faster
than the bandit.. or anything else for that matter!
My favourite pastime is fucking off R1 & CBR1000 riders at the traffic
lights.. They get a shock when I take off and they only catch up at the next set
of lights...
I've got to sort out my front suspension as its is too soft.. I bounce round
corners at the moment...
Just seen your dynojet graphs...I'll send over my ones and you'll see that the
torque on mine is a lot smother and remaims right up there until the end range.
This is because of the carbs..the 1000 carbs are better suited to the 750 engine
(especially with the dynojet kit)."
